Join The Animal Foundation for a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to run one of the largest single-site animal shelters in America and care for the thousands of lost and abandoned animals who come through our doors each year. Because of the manpower, time, and effort involved in adoption events, we typically limit adoption events to high-traffic and well-promoted events attended by local residents. We regularly stage adoption events with a number of community partners including PetSmart, PetCo, Friendly Ford (Paws for the Cause), Subaru of Las Vegas, and others.
The Animal Foundation is always looking for ways to help the animals in our care find forever homes. We partner with organizations of all types including hotels, restaurants, retailers, and others. The Animal Foundation is involved in different kinds of fundraising events including ones we host (Best in Show and Fast & Furriest) and ones that are hosted on our behalf. These evnets are critical to building a community that understands our vision for a humane and compassionate community for all animals and our mission to save the lives of all healthy and treatable animals in the Las Vegas valley. Participating in a wide range of community events in Las Vegas helps create greater awareness for The Animal Foundation and our many animal welfare programs. Most children love dogs and this program allows them to associate reading with something pleasant. This allows students, particularly those who are struggling with their reading skills and feel self-conscious reading aloud in front of other classmates, to practice reading in a relaxed and fun environment. In our Reading to Dogs program, children sit outside of the dog’s kennel and read to them. Reading to dogs at the animal shelter helps bring comfort to and reduce the anxiety of dogs waiting for adoption, and it nurtures empathy in children. To learn more, schedule a presentation or receive updates about future educational opportunities, please email us. The Animal Foundation speaks to students at elementary schools, seniors at community centers, and people of every age in between. If you are a teacher or a scout leader or have a group who would like to learn more about The Animal Foundation and responsible pet ownership, we can schedule either an on-site or off-site educational presentation. Studies show there is a strong relationship between a child’s awareness of the proper way to treat animals and that child’s ability as an adult to relate humanely not only to animals, but to society as a whole.
It’s never too early to learn about the joy of pets.
